The Working Team Lead is a hands-on leadership role responsible for coordinating and supporting daily cleaning operations while actively performing janitorial duties alongside team members. The Working Team Lead serves as a resource for frontline employees, helps ensure work assignments are completed efficiently and to quality standards, and assists management in maintaining a safe, clean, and productive work environment.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Support the Shift Coordinator and Site Supervisor in daily operations.
- Assign and coordinate work activities among cleaning staff.
- Monitor task completion and provide ongoing direction throughout the shift.
- Act as the first point of contact for frontline employees during assigned shifts.
- Communicate operational priorities and shift updates to team members.
Hands-On Cleaning Duties
- Perform routine and specialized cleaning duties as required.
- Assist with floor care activities including scrubbing, polishing, burnishing, and carpet extraction.
- Support washroom sanitation, waste removal, and general facility cleaning.
- Assist with special projects and high-priority cleaning tasks.
- Ensure all work areas meet established cleanliness standards.
Quality Assurance
- Conduct routine inspections of assigned areas.
- Identify service deficiencies and address issues promptly.
- Report recurring concerns and operational challenges to supervisors.
- Ensure company and client cleaning standards are consistently met.
Training & Employee Support
- Assist with onboarding and training new associates.
- Demonstrate proper cleaning techniques and equipment operation.
- Provide coaching and support to team members.
- Reinforce company policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
Equipment & Supply Management
- Monitor cleaning equipment and report maintenance issues.
- Ensure supplies are stocked and readily available.
- Promote proper handling and storage of chemicals and equipment.
- Assist with inventory counts as required.
Health & Safety
- Lead by example in following safe work practices.
- Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Report hazards, incidents, and unsafe conditions immediately.
- Support workplace safety inspections and initiatives.
- Maintain compliance with WHMIS and company safety procedures.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in janitorial, custodial, environmental services, or facilities operations.
- Demonstrated leadership or team lead experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of cleaning equipment, chemicals, and floor care procedures.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prioritize work and coordinate multiple tasks.
- Ability to work independently while supporting team objectives.
Preferred Qualifications
- WHMIS certification.
- Health & Safety training.
- Experience in pharmaceutical, manufacturing, industrial, or commercial environments.
- Experience training and mentoring frontline staff.
Working Conditions
- Active, hands-on role requiring standing, walking, bending, lifting, and frequent movement throughout the facility.
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals and equipment.
- Day, afternoon, night, weekend, and holiday shifts may be required based on operational needs.
