The salary range for this position is $59,000 to $80,000 annually. Final compensation will be determined based on relevant skills, experience, qualifications, and internal equity. As an Operations Manager, you will be responsible for the overall success of the custodial and assigned soft services operations. You will ensure client satisfaction, financial performance, safety compliance, and operational excellence by leading and developing teams, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring compliance with Compass Group Canada policies, procedures, and contractual requirements.
Now, if you were to come on board as one of our Operations Manager (Custodial & Mechanical Services), we’d ask you to do the following for us:
- Plan, organize, and oversee all custodial and assigned soft‑services operations in alignment with Compass Group Canada standards and the contracted scope of work.
- Ensure consistent delivery of high‑quality services that meet or exceed client expectations through regular audits, quality inspections, and operational walk‑throughs, implementing corrective action plans as required.
- Champion a strong health and safety culture by ensuring compliance with Compass Group Canada safety programs, legislative requirements, and workplace safety best practices.
- Conduct regular health and safety inspections covering custodial work practices, WHMIS and chemical handling, equipment and ladder safety, ergonomics, injury prevention, traffic control, and working‑alone protocols.
- Coordinate and support regulatory, building, and compliance inspections, including fire and life‑safety systems, boiler and mechanical inspections, and building and grounds assessments, ensuring timely follow‑up and resolution of deficiencies.
- Oversee minor maintenance and soft‑services activities, including light‑fixture replacement, furniture repairs, minor painting, grounds support, and athletic field painting, while managing and prioritizing work orders.
- Fully utilize the site’s advanced work order and asset management system such as Maintenance Care, to manage all operational workflows, including work orders, preventive maintenance schedules, asset tagging, inventory tracking, and reporting.
Ensure accurate system data entry and use reporting tools to support planning, resource allocation, and operational decision‑making. - Coordinate, escort, and support external contractors (HVAC, electrical, and certified trades) as required, proactively identifying maintenance, safety, or service concerns across the site.
- Plan, schedule, and supervise daily traffic-control operations during student drop‑off and pick‑up, ensuring safe and professional practices to protect students, staff, and the broader community.
- Review and analyze operational and financial data, including monthly invoices, to understand cost distribution across custodial services, facilities maintenance, events, and traffic control.
- Identify trends, efficiencies, and opportunities for improved service quality and cost optimization.
- Support financial and performance accountability for a cost‑plus account omonitoring labour usage, productivity, overtime, supply costs, forecasting, and key performance indicators related to safety, quality, staffing, and service delivery.
- Recruit, hire, train, coach, and develop associates, directly managing an on‑site supervisor and overseeing front‑line custodial and mechanical teams in accordance with Compass Group Canada policies.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through regular communication, site meetings, operational reviews, and timely, professional response to service issues or escalations.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in custodial, facilities, or support services operations.
- Proven leadership experience managing supervisors and front‑line teams.
- Strong knowledge of custodial operations, health and safety regulations, and quality assurance.
- Working knowledge of building systems and soft facility services.
- Experience with work‑order and asset‑management systems; Maintenance Care experience strongly preferred.
- Comfort analyzing operational and financial data to support decision‑making and identify efficiency opportunities.
- Strong communication, organizational, and customer-service skills.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and special events.
