Job Summary
The successful candidate will be able to regularly work flexible hours in the evenings and weekends, have strong communication, impartiality, and the ability to manage sensitive situations with professionalism and discretion. Now, if you were to come on board as one of our HR Generalists, we’d ask you to do the following for us:
- Respond to telephone and email inquiries from all Associates regarding employee relations matters by:
- Interpreting and explaining company policies, procedures, practices, and programs.
- Advising and assisting managers, supervisors, associates on the interpretation and application of the provincial employment legislations.
- Providing guidance to managers in handling employee relations issues and in resolving complaints or disputes.
- Investigate issues, provide resolution, or escalate to field HR on the following:
- Complaints about working conditions
- Disciplinary actions
- Alleged wrongful terminations
- Discrimination allegations, or other HR related matters.
- Perform administrative tasks, such as preparing offers, disciplines, layoffs and other letters/memos as required by operations.
- Handle third party calls, such as employment verification, insurance claims, EAP referrals and inquiries from Service Canada.
- Consult with HR Service Centre management to obtain advice on problem resolution and escalate issues as appropriate to Field HR for resolution.
- Work on special projects, both independently and as part of a team.
Think you have what it takes to be our HR Generalist? We’re committed to hiring the best talent for the role. Here’s how we’ll know you’ll be successful in the role:
- Minimum three years of experience as an HR representative/generalist with a large company or supporting a line Business Unit in a complex fast paced environment,
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, or related, or equivalent experience.
- Advanced computer skills including ability to perform HRIS queries (i.e. JD Edwards), generate reports, perform web-based research, and create case management files in HR software (i.e. Remedy).
- Able to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- You have good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
- Ability to de-escalate situations and handle difficult callers.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrate versatility, flexibility, and an enthusiasm about working with constantly changing priorities.
